J.Crew Fall Sale Reviews

J.Crew fall winter outfits petite cream mini skirt

J.Crew is having some pretty good sales leading in to Cyber Week, so I wanted to round up some noteworthy pieces before sizes are sold out! You can see these outfits in motion in my IG video. I also made a folder in my LTK for J.Crew try-ons and outfits, and it’s searchable in case you’re looking for quick info on a particular piece.

From their current sale, if you’re looking for a shorter above-the-knee trench with detachable hood for rainy days, their icon trench coat is FINALLY included in the 40% promo (was always excluded up until now), albeit many sizes are on backorder. See it on me here and here.

jcrew grey petite straight jeans

I’ve shared these J.Crew jeans in the past for those looking for a true straight cut jean that’s petite-friendly, but also want to mention the Madewell slim straight jean which I tried on more recently. I like that the Madewell leg is slimmer throughout and tapers in a little more at the bottom, but the opening is still wide enough to fit easily over slim shaft booties. You can see the Madewell jeans on me in this review, and they’re on super sale this week for under $45!

Bristol Blazer

In petite, classic and tall sizes.

This is a well-made blazer in a beautifully textured herringbone fabric and gold buttons that are not too bright. The herringbone color works well with both brown and black tones, and looks sharp against a winter white too. The fabric is medium in weight with a full lining. I also tried on the A&F plaid blazer coat which in comparison, is thicker and boxier and wasn’t a keep for me personally. True to its name, the A&F is more of a coat you’d wear as the outermost layer while this blazer can be layered under a bigger coat.

The Bristol blazer is definitely a pricier piece, and I’m hoping it’ll go on further sale for those interested. The cut is more boyfriend style and not as slim fit as their Regent blazer (see on me), which is also on sale and a piece that I recommend to anyone starting a work wardrobe.

J.Crew fall to winter outfit

I wanted to show the backside of this outfit and the shape of these Ann Taylor booties a little better (also comes in brown). These are a winner from the modern toe shape to the comfortable heel, and the versatile slim “sock ” shaft that fits nicely under jeans and pants. The retail price is very high though for faux suede, so I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for a good sale to share!

Supersoft Mockneck Sweater

Sizes xxs – 3X. 9 colors.

Truly cozy and super soft to the touch. There’s several pieces in the Supersoft yarn collection including a rollneck and this mockneck sweater. The mockneck on this one is not too high but I’m in the habit of always rolling down my necks now for a “mini” mockneck, so the photos here all show it folded down halfway! This is a casual fit sweater in a light-medium weight that tucks into my bottoms without too much lumpiness and layers well under blazers.

Kate Straight Pants

**Not included in today’s sale, but hopefully soon!**
In petite, regular & tall sizes. 10 colors.

While I still like my slim cropped Cameron pants (see on me) and continue to recommend them often, the newer Kate pant is a welcome update with a straight fit that feels a little more modern. The full length also provides a little more coverage for those who hate having exposed ankles in the winter! I’m 5 feet tall, and the petite length works perfectly for me without hemming to wear with flats and even sneakers, for those who love the sneakers with trousers look.

I first got the camel color in these and also the white to try, unsure about the white pant pockets situation. The pocket outline on the white DO show through a little FYI, but the fabric is substantial enough that it’s not glaring. You can see my video featuring the white pants and decide for yourself!

Compared to the A&F straight trousers reviewed in a recent post, the J.Crew Kate have a tailored waist with no elastic back, the fabric feel is a little more elevated for workwear, and the length is shorter. The inseam is 26″ for the Kate in Petite vs. 26″ for the A&F in Short, and I found both pairs to fit TTS.

This skirt is the cutest and sadly nearly sold out in smaller sizes! If you’re looking for an ivory tweed skirt, Ann Taylor also has one right now in petite sizing that should hopefully go on sale soon.

Teddy Sherpa Lady Coat

In petite & regular sizing

This is the updated sherpa coat on super sale that I got to try on in store. It’s fully lined, comfortable, and I was surprised that a 00 regular in J.Crew works for me. I find their petite coats to run shorter at the sleeves compared to other brands, so if are petite but with longer arms I would suggest trying their regular sizing.

Daphne Topcoat

In petite, regular & tall sizing

This one has crazy mixed reviews online and after trying it on, I completely see why. This jacket is unlined and you can see the seams inside, different from my Uniqlo coat which is double faced wool with covered interior seams. I would call this a coatigan in terms of the weight rather than a winter coat.

A few of you messaged me saying you live in the south and love this jacket for the mild winters, but I know others will be turned off by the unlined and exposed seams aspect. The coat has a nice shape, so it just depends on what you’re looking for. After trying this on in a few different colors, I’d recommend the camel or darker colors over the cream. While the cream color is beautiful, I think that if you wore a brightly printed top underneath, it might show through!

Hi–I am a relatively new follower and am really enjoying your posts and recommendations! Do you have any idea when the nude/black Edited Pieces shoes from this post will be available? I’m tempted to order the Marc Fisher ones you linked, but would love to order yours if they’re expected to be available anytime soon. Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome! Thanks so much for your interest in our EP shoes. Unfortunately we don’t have a date in the near future due to a lot of development delays, and the Marc Fisher are the closest I’ve found in a while!

Hi Jean! Just stopping by to say hi and say that your winter posts are always my favorite. Hope everyone is doing well. Have a warm, blessed and happy thanksgiving! Thanks for continuing your blog posts. The oldies like me aren’t on instagram and I’ve been following for so many years so I totally remember the friends blogs link sections and stuff. Especially loved the friendships you’ve formed with Wendy, Jenn, Khatu, Kelly, Sydney, Elle, among others. I still think back to old posts like when I see a green coat I think of your JCrew one and I wish I got one back then when the quality was way better. Take care, Jean! as always, best wishes!
